Under the key action number 2 of Erasmus+ – Cooperation for innovation and the Exchange of good practices-, the Rogers Foundation along with four European partners, have started the “Building capacity for transformative learning” project. Guided by Mezirow’s transformative learning approach as Robert Kegan’s constructive- developmental approach, this project aims to increase adult educators’ competences as a way of improving their methods in teaching and training.

We are guided by Mezirow’s transformative learning definition, which lead us to a process in which we want to provide knowledge about innovative learning. By doing so, teachers will be able to provide the conditions for learners to transform their perspective on life and on their personal role in the world. This project aims to facilitate adult educators with appropriate tools to make them self-aware and start a process of personal understanding and transformation, having as a result the possibility for learners to make sense of their own education.

Trainings on meta-skills such as creative thinking, intellectual autonomy and self-direction, allow both the teachers and specially their students to be engaged citizens, creating meaning out of their personal choices and developing personal growth.

To do it, all the partners carry out a research on transformative learning approaches and practices around Europe, having as a result the creation of a competences framework (IO1). This intellectual output guides the team to create a curriculum (IO2) about how to teach or facilitate those competences into learners, which along with the online platform (IO4), create a blended strategy to accompany the adult educators within the project. Finally, a course book (IO3) compilating IO1 and IO2, summarizes the theorical results and some practical tools of this enterprise.

This international partnership is based on the international partnership for transformative learning network, consolidating a strong base for running our multiplier events and sharing this very innovative approach to the world. We are motivated by the creation of a shared understating of transformative learning among adult education organizations in Europe and the results of the application of this view for both teachers and learners.
